Bangladeshi researcher Md. Al Amin is exploring the potential of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data analytics to address important challenges in healthcare, including early disease detection, risk prediction, biomedical data analysis and technology-driven clinical decision support.
Raised in Mymensingh, Al Amin has contributed to research in the fields of AI and healthcare, with studies published in international journals and conference proceedings. His work focuses on how data-driven technologies can help identify disease patterns, assess health risks and support more informed medical decision-making.
One of his key research interests is the early detection of Parkinson’s disease. He has worked on multiple studies in this area, including research using biomedical voice data to develop machine learning-based prediction models.
In another study, he proposed an automated approach to Parkinson’s disease detection using Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) medical imaging, image processing techniques and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN).
The study used 200 SPECT images, comprising 100 images from healthy individuals and 100 associated with Parkinson’s disease. It explored the potential of automated medical image analysis to distinguish between healthy individuals and those with the disease.
The research paper was published in the proceedings of the 2025 International Conference on Converging Technology in Electrical and Information Engineering (ICCTEIE), with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as the publisher.
Beyond Parkinson’s disease, Al Amin has also been involved in AI- and machine learning-based research relating to lung cancer, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental health, brain image analysis and the prediction of hospital readmission risks.
These research areas involve the use of data analysis, classification techniques, statistical methods and predictive models to explore how computational technologies can contribute to healthcare assessment and decision support.
AI is increasingly attracting attention in healthcare for its potential to analyse large volumes of medical data, identify patterns that may be difficult to detect manually and assist healthcare professionals in assessing disease risks. However, the reliability of such applications depends on the quality of the data, adequate sample sizes, rigorous scientific validation and testing in real-world clinical settings.
Alongside his research interests, Al Amin works as a Material Analyst at TI Automotive, a multinational Tier-1 automotive supplier in the United States. His professional responsibilities include demand forecasting, inventory analysis and data-driven supply chain planning.
His work in forecasting and analytical planning complements his broader experience in data-oriented problem-solving across professional and research settings.
Al Amin holds a master’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from International American University in Los Angeles, California, United States. He previously completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering at Lovely Professional University in India.
His educational journey began in Mymensingh, where he attended Mukul Niketon High School and later completed his higher secondary education at Notre Dame College, Mymensingh.
With AI and machine learning becoming increasingly important in medical research, Al Amin aims to expand his work at the intersection of healthcare and information technology. His future research interests include disease prediction, biomedical data analysis and the development of technology-based decision-support methods.
His research reflects the growing scope of interdisciplinary work that brings together computing, data science and healthcare to explore potential solutions to complex medical challenges.
