All scheduled banks in Bangladesh will remain closed on February 11 and 12 (Wednesday and Thursday) in observance of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and a constitutional referendum.
The decision was finalized by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday (February 1) through a special circular. During this period, all banking operations will be suspended, and employees of all scheduled banks will be granted leave to facilitate their participation in the voting process.
Holiday Details and Government Orders
The central bank’s directive follows a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on January 25, which declared a nationwide public holiday for the election period.
-
Bank Closure: February 11 (Wednesday) & February 12 (Thursday).
-
Election Day: February 12 (Thursday).
-
Industrial Areas: A special holiday has been granted to workers and employees in industrial zones on February 10 to allow them time to travel to their respective constituencies.
“The holiday is intended to ensure that all citizens, including those working in the financial sector, can exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general election and the national referendum,” stated the Bangladesh Bank notice.
Extended Break for Financial Sector
Since the bank closures on Wednesday and Thursday lead directly into the weekend (Friday and Saturday), the banking sector is effectively entering a four-day hiatus. Financial experts advise customers to complete essential transactions, such as salary disbursements or bill payments, before the shutdown begins on February 11.
The upcoming polls on February 12, 2026, mark a significant milestone for the country, held under the supervision of the interim government. In addition to electing members of the Jatiya Sangsad, citizens will cast their votes in a referendum regarding constitutional reforms.
