Md. Younusur Rahman, a former Senior Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the publicly listed energy and power sector company, Jamuna Oil Company Limited.
The appointment was formalized during the company’s 538th board meeting, held on September 30, 2025. This information was confirmed by sources at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
A Veteran in Public Administration
Mr. Rahman brings a wealth of experience from a distinguished and extensive career in public service. He joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Administration Cadre in 1983 and held key positions across local and central government administrations throughout his tenure.
His diverse career includes significant roles in crucial ministries, most notably as: Senior Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture (serving as the administrative head), Chairman of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Joint Secretary at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance.
Previous Experience in Capital Market Governance
Prior to his new role at Jamuna Oil, Mr. Rahman also gained experience in the country’s capital market governance. He previously served as the Chairman and an Independent Director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the nation’s primary stock exchange.
His appointment to Jamuna Oil, a key player in the fuel and power sector, is expected to leverage his vast experience in financial management, public administration, and energy sector policy, which will be crucial for the strategic direction and corporate governance of the company.
