Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening international relations through mutual respect, cooperation, and trust. Speaking at an Iftar banquet hosted in honor of diplomats on Friday evening, the Prime Minister emphasized that Bangladesh places the highest importance on both bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
The event, held at the state guest house Jamuna, was attended by ambassadors, heads of foreign missions, cabinet members, and members of parliament. According to the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Saleh Shibli, the PM remarked that prosperity is built through engagement and collaboration, not isolation.
A Vision for Economic and Democratic Reform
During his address, Prime Minister Rahman outlined a roadmap for a “multifaceted, technology-driven, and sustainable economy.” Key highlights of his governance strategy include:

Business-Friendly Environment: The government will pursue prudent deregulation, easing the cost of doing business to attract responsible global investment.

Human Capital Development: Focus will be placed on technical and vocational education, including the introduction of a third language in school curricula to prepare the youth for a global market.

Social Safety Nets: The PM announced the phased introduction of Family Cards and Farmer Cards to provide targeted social and economic support to women and the agricultural community.

Anti-Corruption Measures: Emphasizing transparency, the Prime Minister stated that democracy extends beyond the ballot box to include inclusion and accountability. “We will take strict measures to tackle corruption at all levels of governance,” he asserted.
Foreign Policy and Global Cooperation
The Prime Minister reiterated the “friendship to all” policy, describing Bangladesh’s diplomatic approach as pragmatic and sustainable, rooted in sovereignty and mutual interest.
“We value our bilateral and multilateral partnerships and remain open to candid dialogue and robust cooperation in the years ahead,” PM Rahman stated.
He also addressed the climate crisis, noting that as a climate-vulnerable nation, Bangladesh is committed to working constructively with global partners to advance resilience and sustainable development.
UNGA Candidacy
In a significant diplomatic move, the Prime Minister sought international support for Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, who is Bangladesh’s candidate for the Presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the 2026-27 term.
