The International Crimes Tribunal is set to deliver its verdict today against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two others in a case filed for crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising. Ahead of the verdict, the entire Supreme Court and tribunal area in Dhaka have been brought under an extensive security blanket, with members of the Army, Police, BGB and RAB deployed at key entry points.
Multi-layer Security From Early Morning
On Monday (17 November), between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM, an unusually strict security presence was observed in the court vicinity.
- Pedestrians were stopped and questioned at the slightest suspicion,
- Identity cards were checked,
- Bags were thoroughly inspected.
Treating the verdict day as a “high-risk morning,” authorities have significantly intensified patrols and search operations from the tribunal gate to the Supreme Court’s main entrance and the Mazar Gate area. Motorcycles were stopped for document checks, and pedestrians were questioned about their destination—creating a visibly tense and cautious environment.
Strong Presence of All Four Forces
- Army personnel were most visibly stationed near the Mazar Gate.
- RAB deployed additional forces inside the court premises.
- BGB patrol teams circled the entire Supreme Court complex.
- Police maintained continuous checkpoints and screening operations.
Public Reactions
A female lawyer who arrived from Moghbazar said:
“I had to open my bag at two checkpoints. I’ve never seen a day like this.”
A shopkeeper near the court area said:
“From morning, the atmosphere is different. They ask anyone who stops even for a moment where they are going.”
Strict Access Control Inside the Tribunal
No one is being allowed inside the tribunal premises without prior approval.
A security official stated:
“There is no scope for relaxation today.”
Enhanced Surveillance Across the City
As the verdict will be displayed on large public screens at various locations, security and intelligence surveillance have also been tightened in other parts of Dhaka. Special intelligence teams are stationed at key spots across the city.
