Mashrur Arefin, the Managing Director and CEO of City Bank PLC, has been elected as the Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), the apex body for the country’s commercial bank executives.
The election took place during the ABB’s 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held recently. The new leadership committee will serve a two-year term for the 2026–2027 period. Along with Arefin, Ahsan Zaman Chowdhury, Managing Director and CEO of Trust Bank PLC, was elected as the Secretary General of the organization.

Profiles of the Leaders
Mashrur Arefin is a veteran banker with over three decades of experience. Under his leadership, City Bank has seen significant digital transformation and growth. He also holds the position of Chairperson of the SWIFT Members and Users Group in Bangladesh.
Ahsan Zaman Chowdhury, the new Secretary General, brings nearly 40 years of commercial banking expertise to the role. Having started his career in 1986, he has held senior leadership positions at AB Bank and Eastern Bank before taking the helm at Trust Bank.
Stakeholders within the financial industry expressed optimism that this new committee, composed of some of the most seasoned leaders in the sector, will drive a more transparent and robust banking environment for Bangladesh.
