In a significant step towards a cashless economy, the Bangladesh Bank, in collaboration with lead bank BRAC Bank, has organized the ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ initiative in Rajshahi. The program aims to expand cashless transactions and raise public awareness about digital financial services.
Held on September 17 and 18, 2025, the two-day event took place at the Rajshahi Jail Training Academy Auditorium and the Rajshahi University campus. The program attracted a diverse group of participants, including merchants, customers, bankers, students, and local residents.
Promoting Digital Transactions and Bangla QR
The initiative featured seminars, discussions, exhibitions, and promotional campaigns focused on the benefits of digital transactions, particularly the use of Bangla QR code. These efforts are expected to play a crucial role in expanding the cashless ecosystem by encouraging a transition from cash-based to digital transactions.
The inaugural session was graced by several distinguished guests. The Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi, Khandaker Azim Ahmed NDC, was the chief guest. Special guests included Md. Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Head Office; Md. Sharafat Ullah Khan, Director of Bangladesh Bank Head Office; and Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director & CEO of BRAC Bank. The event was presided over by Rafeza Akter Kanta, Director of Bangladesh Bank Head Office, and was also attended by Sabbir Hossain, Deputy Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer of BRAC Bank.
Emphasizing Financial Inclusion
Throughout the program, sessions were conducted on various aspects of digital transactions. Promotional campaigns, roadshows, and awareness drives were also organized to educate the public. The sessions emphasized the importance of cashless transactions in fostering financial inclusion by ensuring fast and convenient banking services for all citizens.
Participants praised the Bangladesh Bank’s initiative and expressed their hope for similar programs in the future. As the lead bank for this event, BRAC Bank’s participation highlights its commitment to advancing financial inclusion in Bangladesh.
