The medical board overseeing the treatment of former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is scheduled to announce its decision tonight regarding her potential transfer to London for advanced medical treatment. A source from the BNP’s media cell confirmed the information to the press this morning.
The source indicated that the decision to transfer Khaleda Zia to London hinges entirely on her physical condition and the approval of the medical board. An air ambulance is ready to arrive in the country immediately upon receiving the board’s green light.
Air Ambulance Arrival and Schedule
Earlier, the Qatar Embassy in Dhaka confirmed that a special air ambulance, arranged by the Emir of Qatar and originating from Germany, is scheduled to arrive today (Saturday, December 6) for Begum Khaleda Zia. The air ambulance is expected to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5 PM local time.
Her transfer to London, initially planned for Friday (December 5), was postponed because the air ambulance did not arrive on schedule. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir later informed the media that the delay was due to a technical error affecting the aircraft.
Alamgir expressed hope that if all technical issues are resolved and the medical board confirms the former Prime Minister is fit for travel, she will depart for London on Sunday (December 7).
Khaleda Zia’s Health Condition
The 80-year-old former prime minister has been suffering from multiple chronic health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney complications.
She was taken to Evercare Hospital on the night of November 23 after developing respiratory distress. She remains under the supervision of a specialized medical board composed of both domestic and foreign expert physicians.
