Following the trend of previous trading days this week, the country’s premier bourse, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), ended Thursday in the red. A sharp decline in the prices of most shares and units caused all major indices to tumble, with the primary index hitting its lowest level in a month.
Investor participation also remained sluggish, as turnover fell to a new low for the current week.
DSE Index and Market Performance
The benchmark index, DSEX, shed 22 points to close at 4,831, marking its lowest point since November 17, when it stood at 4,775 points. Other key indices also saw significant drops:

DSES (Shariah Index): Decreased by 8 points to settle at 1,001.

DS30 (Blue-chip Index): Dropped 9 points to finish at 1,860.
Of the 391 issues traded on Thursday, only 69 advanced, while 254 declined, and 68 remained unchanged. Among the losers, 145 belonged to the ‘A’ category, 54 to the ‘B’ category, and 55 to the ‘Z’ category.
Turnover Hits Monthly Low
Daily turnover on the DSE reached Tk 375.78 crore on Thursday, the lowest recorded in the current week. This figure also represents the lowest trading volume since December 7, when turnover was Tk 267.64 crore. For comparison, the turnover earlier this week was:

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) mirrored the capital’s market, with all indices ending lower. The CASPI (All Share Price Index) fell by 70 points, closing at 13,624.
A total of 135 securities were traded on the CSE. Of these:

The daily turnover at the CSE stood at Tk 4.52 crore, a decrease of Tk 1.29 crore compared to Wednesday’s turnover of Tk 5.81 crore.
