Serious allegations have emerged in Singair, Manikganj, where a young man allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl under the pretext of marriage and then vanished with her cash and gold jewelry. The victim has initiated a hunger strike at the accused’s home since Sunday (November 9) morning, demanding marriage.
The accused, Jisan (25), and his mother have reportedly fled their residence following the incident.
The victim is a resident of Hatatpara village in the upazila’s Dhalla Union. She has been staging a sit-in protest at the accused Jisan’s house since Sunday morning.
According to the complaint, the girl developed a romantic relationship with Jisan, son of Kawsar from Dhalla village. The victim claims Jisan promised to marry her and, based on that promise, established a physical relationship with her multiple times. They eventually began living together in a rented house, identifying themselves as husband and wife.
The girl alleges that Jisan recently broke his promise of marriage, swindled her of a significant amount of cash and gold jewelry, and then went into hiding.
Feeling betrayed, the teen went to Jisan’s house on Sunday morning and began her hunger strike. She has declared that she will not leave the premises or consume any food until Jisan agrees to marry her.
As of writing this report, the accused Jisan and his mother remain absconding, and their comments could not be obtained. They were not found at their residence.
Regarding the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singair Police Station, JOM Toufiq Azam, stated, “We have not yet received a written complaint. We are looking into the matter. Legal action will be taken upon receiving a formal complaint.”
