DHAKA – The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has announced another increase in gold prices in the domestic market. Following a decrease earlier this month, the price of gold per bhori (11.664 grams) will be raised by up to Tk 1,555.
Under the new pricing, the finest quality 22-carat gold will sell for Tk 189,307 per bhori. The price for 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 180,699, 18-carat at Tk 154,886, and traditional-method gold at Tk 128,479 per bhori.
In a press release issued on Saturday, BAJUS stated that the price adjustment was made in response to an increase in the price of acid gold in the international and local markets. The new prices will take effect from Sunday, September 21.
However, the price of silver will remain unchanged. Currently, 22-carat silver is selling for Tk 3,476 per bhori, 21-carat at Tk 3,313, 18-carat at Tk 2,846, and traditional-method silver at Tk 2,135 per bhori.
BAJUS also noted that a 5% government-mandated VAT and a minimum of 6% labor charge must be added to the gold price. However, the labor charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewelry.
