The country’s capital markets witnessed a strong recovery last week, with both the benchmark index and market participation trending upward. The premier bourse, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), saw its broad index rise by over 1.5%, while daily average turnover jumped by more than 15%.
DSE Market Performance
The benchmark DSEX index climbed by 80.07 points (1.55%) to close the week at 5,234 points, up from 5,154 points the previous week. Other key indices also reflected the positive momentum:

DS-30 (Blue-chip index): Rose by 15.31 points to end at 2,002.

DSES (Shariah index): Gained 37.64 points to settle at 1,072.
Activity on the trading floor intensified significantly. The daily average turnover reached Tk 668.17 crore, marking a 15.32% increase compared to the previous week’s average of Tk 579.42 crore. Out of the 389 issues traded, 231 advanced, 141 declined, and 17 remained unchanged.

In terms of returns, the Engineering sector led the pack with a 5.66% gain, followed by Banking (3.79%) and Mutual Funds (3.40%). Conversely, the General Insurance sector faced the steepest correction, dropping 3.89%.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Highlights
The port city’s bourse also mirrored the positive trend. The CASPI (All Share Price Index) rose by 1.81% to close at 14,731 points.
