OTTAWA – Canada has advised its citizens to exercise a high degree of caution when traveling to Bangladesh and has urged them to avoid all travel to the three districts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The travel advisory, published on Thursday, September 18, on the official Government of Canada website, designates a “yellow sign” for Bangladesh travel and a “red sign” for the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, indicating a “no-go” zone.
The advisory states that travel to the Chittagong Hill Tracts is risky due to political violence, kidnapping, and sporadic clashes among ethnic groups. Furthermore, it warns that travelers throughout the country should be mindful of potential demonstrations, clashes, and hartals (strikes) or blockades. The advisory also notes that the security situation could deteriorate at any time without prior warning.
