DHAKA – Four members of a single family, including two young children, sustained burn injuries after an air conditioner exploded in their home in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area early Friday. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the Dholpur neighborhood.
The victims were identified as Tuhin Hossain (38), his wife Iva Akhter (30), and their two sons, Tanvir (9) and Tawhid (7). Neighbors and family members rescued them and immediately rushed them to the burn unit of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
According to Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute, Tuhin suffered burns to 47% of his body, while his son Tanvir has burns on 40%. Iva sustained burns on 15% of her body, and their youngest son, Tawhid, has 8% burns. Three of the family members have been admitted for treatment, while Tawhid is currently under observation.
Tuhin’s sister-in-law, Farzana, reported that Tuhin works as a mobile phone service technician at Motaleb Plaza. She said the fire broke out suddenly following the AC explosion. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the blast.
