The National Citizen Party (NCP) has officially announced its mayoral candidates for the upcoming elections in Dhaka’s two city corporations.
Party Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam declared Nasir Uddin Patwary as the party’s candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan for the Dhaka North City Corporation.
The announcement was made on Sunday afternoon during an exchange meeting held at the NCP office with potential councillor candidates from various wards under both city corporations.
Addressing the meeting, Nahid Islam emphasized the importance of identifying qualified councillor candidates and addressing ward-level civic issues. He also instructed party leaders and activists to maintain continuous engagement with the families of those নিহত and injured during the July আন্দোলন.
In addition, he called for strict vigilance against any alleged subversive activities by leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League who are reportedly in hiding or on the run.
The meeting was attended by both mayoral nominees, along with key party leaders including Dhaka North NCP Convener Ariful Islam Adib and Dhaka South Convener Ishaq Sarkar, among others from the party’s metropolitan units.
The NCP leaders expressed optimism that their candidates would present a strong challenge in the upcoming city corporation elections, focusing on governance, public services, and citizen engagement.
