The country’s capital market witnessed a positive trend throughout the week (April 19–23), characterized by a notable rise in major indices and increased trading activity on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
DSE Performance Overview
The DSE, the nation’s premier bourse, saw its total market capitalization increase by BDT 1.919 billion during the week, reflecting improved investor sentiment. By the end of the final trading session, the market capitalization stood at BDT 687.55 billion, up from BDT 685.63 billion the previous week, marking a growth of 0.28%.
The week was marked by a broad-based rally across all key indices:

Surge in Trading Volume
Trading activity saw a significant uptick compared to the preceding week. The total turnover on the DSE reached BDT 45.14 billion, a substantial jump from the previous week’s BDT 32.73 billion—an increase of BDT 12.41 billion.
On an average daily basis, the exchange recorded a turnover of BDT 9.03 billion, compared to BDT 8.18 billion in the prior week. This represents an average daily increase of BDT 845.5 million, or approximately 10.33%.
Market participation remained active, with 390 companies and mutual funds traded. During the week, 194 issues saw their prices climb, while 168 experienced a decline, and 28 remained unchanged.
Mixed Results at Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)
While the Dhaka market saw growth in both indices and volume, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) experienced a more nuanced week.
The CSE’s major indices recorded growth, with the CASPI and CSCX rising by 0.47% and 0.57%, respectively, ending at 14,832 and 9,093 points. However, trading volume on the CSE declined significantly; the exchange recorded a total turnover of BDT 1.48 billion, down by BDT 957 million from the previous week’s total of BDT 2.43 billion.
Out of the 310 companies and mutual funds traded on the CSE, 138 issues recorded price gains, 151 declined, and 21 remained steady.
