YouTube Shorts has rolled out a powerful new tool — Google’s latest AI video generator, Veo 3. With this feature, users can now create up to 8-second videos directly from short text prompts within the YouTube mobile app. These videos will also include sound, making it easier than ever to produce high-quality Shorts without footage, cameras, or editing software.
According to YouTube, users can type prompts for any imaginary scene, then select a visual style such as animated, cinematic, or artistic. Veo 3 will generate the requested video within seconds. Unlike the previous Dream Screen feature, which could only create backgrounds, Veo 3 can generate complete videos.
Google claims Veo 3 can simulate natural camera movements, track multiple objects, and maintain a consistent visual style. To use the feature, users simply go to the Create tab in the YouTube app and choose “Create a video.” No uploads or Gemini subscriptions are required. Each video will automatically include sound effects, background music, and be marked with visible text (“AI-generated”) as well as an invisible SynthID watermark.
Google says the feature will be especially useful for short video creators, meme makers, and new users. Creators can also generate AI clips as green screen backgrounds to blend with their own videos.
However, there are concerns: YouTube already faces issues with misleading AI-generated content, and experts warn that this new tool could make such content even more widespread.
