The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s premier bourse, ended the week on a downward trend this Thursday, April 30. Most shares and units saw a price decline, dragging down all major price indices, while daily turnover also witnessed a slight dip.
Market Performance at DSE
According to market analysis, a total of 389 companies participated in trading on the DSE today. The market breadth remained negative as losers significantly outnumbered gainers:

The benchmark index, DSEX, shed 30 points to settle at 5,287. Similarly, the DSES (Shariah index) dropped by 3 points to 1,053, and the DS30 (blue-chip index) fell by 4 points to close at 2,017.
Trading volume also saw a contraction. Total turnover stood at 864.03 crore BDT, which is approximately 23.75 crore BDT lower than the previous day’s turnover of 887.78 crore BDT.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Update
The situation was mirrored at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), where the broad index, CASPI, plunged by 94 points to end the day at 14,806.

Interestingly, while the DSE saw a drop in turnover, the CSE recorded a surge in activity. Total turnover at the CSE reached 48.33 crore BDT, a significant increase of 24.02 crore BDT compared to the 24.31 crore BDT recorded the previous day.
