The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has announced a revision to its trading and operational schedule, effective from Sunday, April 5. The move comes as part of broader government initiatives to conserve electricity and fuel amid a growing energy crisis.
According to a press release issued by the DSE on Saturday, daily trading sessions will be shortened by 30 minutes, while overall office hours for the exchange have been reduced by one hour.
New Trading Schedule
Under the new timings, the stock market will operate as follows:
-
Trading Starts: 10:00 AM
-
Trading Ends: 1:55 PM
-
Post-Closing Session: 1:55 PM to 2:00 PM (5-minute window)
Previously, trading sessions began at 10:00 AM and concluded at 2:30 PM. The new schedule reduces the core trading window to nearly four hours to minimize energy consumption during peak periods.
Reduced Working Hours
In addition to the trading changes, the DSE has adjusted its official working hours. The exchange will now close at 4:00 PM, an hour earlier than the previous 5:00 PM closing time.
The decision aligns the capital market with the government’s recent directive to shorten office hours across various sectors to mitigate the impact of fuel shortages. Authorities hope that these austerity measures will help stabilize the national power grid as the country navigates supply disruptions linked to global energy market volatility.
Investors and brokerage houses have been advised to adjust their operations according to the new timeline starting todays morning.
