Dr. M. A. Kaiyum, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-nominated candidate for Dhaka-11 constituency, has pledged to transform the area into a safe, disciplined, and modern zone free from the curse of extortion and drugs. Dr. Kaiyum is also the BNP’s National Executive Committee’s Secretary for Microcredit Affairs and former founding president of BNP’s Dhaka North City unit.
He made the remarks on Thursday (November 6) while speaking with leaders and activists of the Banasree Somomona Parishad at an office in Gulshan-2, Dhaka. The Parishad leaders greeted him with flowers and congratulated him on receiving the party’s nomination for the upcoming national election.
Dr. Kaiyum said, “Under the directive of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the party has always maintained a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. There will be no place in this country for drug dealers or users. To root out drugs from society, we must identify those involved and take collective action with the support of law enforcement and active public participation.”
Emphasizing the need for community responsibility, he added, “Only 2–3% of people are involved in the drug trade, yet the remaining 97–98% of us cannot resist them effectively due to weaknesses in law enforcement. It’s our duty to build this society — together, we will make it drug-free, Insha’Allah.”
Highlighting his commitment to the constituency, Dr. Kaiyum said, “We have already declared that drug dealers and extortionists will have no place in areas like Badda, Vatara, Rampura, and parts of Hatirjheel. By voting for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy,’ you will empower us to continue our work for the people, Insha’Allah.”
Among those present at the event were former acting member secretary of BNP Dhaka North A.G.M. Shamsul Haque, President of Banasree Somomona Parishad Md. Shahabuddin Shikder, Dr. Rezaul Karim Reza, Freedom Fighter M. A. Matin, and other Parishad leaders.
