Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, head of the Election Reform Commission, emphasized that forming a government through democratic elections is the only way forward, asserting there is “no alternative to elections for forming a government.”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at an exchange of views organized by Citizens for Good Governance (SUJAN) in Gangni, Meherpur, on Friday. He stated that this electoral process will pave the way for democracy.
In response to a journalist’s question, the SUJAN Secretary highlighted that both the proportional representation (PR) system and the seat-based system have their positive and negative aspects. He proposed that both methods should be implemented.
“We have proposed making both systems effective,” he said. “Voting for the lower house will be seat-based, and for the upper house, it will be PR-based.”
The meeting, held in the Gangni Upazila Parishad conference room, was presided over by Mozammel Haque, a freedom fighter and president of the SUJAN Upazila chapter. Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Consensus Building), was the chief speaker. The event was attended by people from various professions.
