Economist Wajid Hassan Shah has been appointed as the new Executive President of the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM). He officially joined his post today, Monday, October 6, after submitting his joining letter to Khondkar Rashed Maksudur, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and also the Chairman of the BICM Board of Directors.
Mr. Shah is a seasoned professional with a strong academic background and extensive experience in economic research and public service.
Rich Background in Economics and Development
Mr. Shah holds multiple degrees from prestigious institutions: a BSc in Economics from Truman State University in the USA, an MA in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an MBA in Development Management from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Dhaka University.
His prior professional experience includes: Member (Additional Secretary) at the Bangladesh Competition Commission, Director (Studies) at BICM, making this a return to the institution, Research Fellow at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS).
International Consultancy Experience
Mr. Shah has also served as a consultant for numerous global organizations, bringing international perspective to his new role. His consultancy experience includes working with various United Nations agencies, such as UNDP, FAO, ILO, IOM, WFP, UN Women, and WHO. Furthermore, he has provided consultation services to major international bodies like the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank, and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Upon his arrival at BICM, he was welcomed by Mr. Nazmush Salehin, Director (Finance and Administration), and other officials of the institute. Mr. Shah’s appointment is expected to strengthen BICM’s role in developing human resources for the country’s capital market.
