Dr. M. Aslam Alam, the Chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA), has resigned from his post, citing personal reasons.
On Monday, March 2, 2026, he officially submitted his resignation letter to the Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division (FID). In the letter, Dr. Alam stated that he is unable to continue his duties as Chairman due to personal circumstances and requested the authorities to take the necessary steps to accept his departure.
A Brief Tenure
Dr. M. Aslam Alam, a former Senior Secretary, was appointed as the head of the insurance sector’s regulatory body in September 2024. His appointment by the interim government came in the wake of the student-led mass uprising that reshaped the country’s leadership landscape.
During his tenure, he was tasked with overseeing reforms and bringing stability to the insurance industry, which has faced various structural challenges in recent years.
What’s Next for IDRA?
The government is expected to appoint a successor shortly to ensure that the regulatory functions of the insurance sector remain uninterrupted. The Financial Institutions Division has yet to comment on who might step in as the acting or permanent replacement.
