The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has urged the Election Commission (EC) not to appoint officials from Islami Bank, Ibn Sina, and other like-minded institutions as polling officers for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election, in order to ensure neutrality in the electoral process.
On Thursday (October 23), the party submitted a 36-point proposal to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin.
The proposal stated that, for the sake of maintaining election neutrality, individuals employed in organizations widely recognized as politically aligned — such as Islami Bank, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Islami Bank Hospital, Ibn Sina, and similar institutions — should not be appointed as presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, or polling officers.
It further mentioned that Islami Bank has already dismissed around 5,000 employees across the country and, according to public reports, has been hurriedly filling these vacancies with individuals loyal to the ruling party.
A BNP delegation led by Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan submitted the proposal to the CEC.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dr. Moyeen Khan said that no controversial individuals should be appointed to election duties. He was seen holding a document titled “Proposals for Ensuring Free and Fair Elections – Agenda for the Meeting with the Election Commission.”
