Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostakur Rahman has said the central bank is working relentlessly to build a secure, simple, low-cost, and inclusive cashless transaction system across the country.
He made the remarks on Friday during a visit to the traditional Goni Bakery in Chattogram, as part of a two-day official tour, according to a press release issued by Bangladesh Bank.
The governor is visiting Chattogram from August 7–8, where he is scheduled to attend several official meetings with Bangladesh Bank officials at its Chattogram office and participate in promotional activities for Bangla QR-based payments in the city.
During the visit, he purchased the bakery’s traditional “Bela biscuit” and paid using the Bangla QR platform. He expressed satisfaction that a well-known and traditional business like Goni Bakery has adopted QR-based digital payments.
The governor said the use of Bangla QR in a reputed establishment reflects the growing acceptance of digital transactions and increasing public trust in such systems. He noted that the expansion of digital payments in business and commerce would play a vital role in enhancing transparency, reducing transaction costs, and promoting financial inclusion.
He also urged businesses across the country to adopt Bangla QR and actively participate in building a cashless Bangladesh.
The press release added that Bangladesh Bank’s Bangla QR initiative is rapidly expanding nationwide as an interoperable, secure, and user-friendly digital payment platform.
