The country’s primary stock market extended its losing streak on Wednesday, the fourth working day of the week, as most shares and units on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) declined, dragging down the major indices. Turnover also dropped further compared to the previous sessions.
Market analysis showed that trading on the DSE began on a positive note, with the majority of shares and units witnessing price gains in early trading. The key indices also moved upward briefly. However, the trend reversed around 11:30 am, when a large number of securities started to fall, pulling the indices into negative territory. The downward trend persisted for the rest of the session.
At the end of the day, a total of 393 issues were traded on the DSE. Among them, prices of 145 advanced, while 192 declined and 56 remained unchanged.
Due to the dominance of declining issues, the benchmark DSEX index fell by 11 points to close at 5,770. The DS30 index, comprising blue-chip stocks, dropped by 13 points to 2,169. However, the Shariah-based DSES index bucked the trend, gaining 2 points to settle at 1,187.
Turnover at the DSE stood at Tk 1,156.11 crore, down from Tk 1,388.03 crore in the previous trading session — a decline of Tk 231.92 crore in a single day.
