The Bangladesh capital market experienced a bullish trend last week, with the primary index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) climbing significantly. Despite the upward movement in indices, the market witnessed a nearly 24% drop in average daily turnover.DSE Index Performance
The DSE broad index, DSEX, gained 127.56 points or 2.43% over the week, closing at 5,368 points compared to 5,241 points the previous week. Other key indices also trended upward:

DS-30 Index: Rose by 54.74 points to end at 2,066.

Shariah Index (DSES): Increased by 30.70 points to settle at 1,079.
Out of 389 issues traded on the DSE, 324 advanced, 38 declined, and 27 remained unchanged. Major contributors to the index surge included Islami Bank, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, City Bank, Square Pharmaceuticals, and Beximco Pharmaceuticals.
Market Drivers and Investor Sentiment
Market analysts noted that the week began following a six-year record single-day plunge, which pushed share prices to “attractive levels.” This prompted cautious investors to re-enter the market. Additionally, eased anxieties regarding the potential impact of Middle East conflicts contributed to the recovery.
Turnover and Sectoral Highlights
While indices rose, liquidity took a hit. The average daily turnover stood at Tk 531.36 crore, a 23.71% decrease from the previous week’s average of Tk 696.49 crore.

Every sector posted positive returns last week. The Cement sector led the pack with a 7.62% gain, followed by IT (5.28%), Life Insurance (4.65%), and Telecommunications (3.77%).
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Update
The port city’s exchange also saw gains. The CASPI index rose by 1.05% to reach 14,980 points. Unlike the DSE, the CSE saw an increase in total weekly turnover, reaching Tk 166.53 crore, up from Tk 106.02 crore the week prior. Of the 271 issues traded, 143 advanced, 103 declined, and 25 remained unchanged.
