Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that neither partisan influence, political power, nor coercion will dictate state affairs — the rule of law will be the ultimate authority in governing the country.
He made these remarks during a televised address to the nation on Wednesday night.
At the beginning of his speech, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and paid tribute to the martyrs whose sacrifices ensured the country’s independence and sovereignty. He noted that a new government, accountable to the people through their votes, has begun its journey, marking a renewed commitment to democracy and the restoration of citizens’ rights.
Addressing the nation, he emphasized that the country belongs to all citizens — Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians — regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or whether they reside in the hills or the plains. The government aims to build a self-reliant, secure, humane, and democratic Bangladesh for every citizen.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that the new administration has assumed office amid a fragile economy, weakened governance structures, and a deteriorating law and order situation resulting from past corruption and misrule. Improving public safety and taking firm action against corruption are among the government’s top priorities, he said.
He also identified the spread of gambling and narcotics as major contributors to the decline in law and order. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take strict measures to curb these activities.
Ensuring peace and security in public life remains a key objective of the government, he added. All constitutional, governmental, and private institutions will operate strictly under established laws and regulations. “No partisan influence or force will prevail — the rule of law alone will guide the state,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
