The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced a significant hike in gold prices, pushing the value of the precious metal to an unprecedented high in the local market. Effective from Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the price of high-quality 22-carat gold has increased by Tk 5,249 per bhori, crossing the Tk 2.62 lakh mark.
According to a press release issued by BAJUS on Monday, the decision follows a sharp rise in the price of “Tejabi” (pure gold) in the local market and a continuing upward trend in the international arena.
New Gold Price Structure
Under the revised rates, the cost for various categories of gold (per bhori/11.664 grams) is as follows:
| Gold Category | New Price (Tk) |
| 22-carat (Best Quality) | 2,62,440 |
| 21-carat | 2,50,484 |
| 18-carat | 2,14,734 |
| Traditional Method | 1,76,593 |
Silver Prices on the Rise
The price adjustment also extended to silver, which saw a notable increase across all categories:
-
22-carat Silver: Tk 7,757 per bhori
-
21-carat Silver: Tk 7,407 per bhori
-
18-carat Silver: Tk 6,357 per bhori
-
Traditional Silver: Tk 4,782 per bhori
Global Market Influence
The local price hike mirrors a historic surge in the international market. On Monday, global gold prices breached the psychological milestone of $5,100 per ounce for the first time, fueled by geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. Sources from Goldprice.org confirmed that the metal remained firmly above $5,090 during Monday’s trading sessions.
BAJUS noted that the new pricing reflects the “overall market situation” and reminded consumers that a 5% government VAT and a minimum 6% making charge must be added to these base prices at the time of purchase.
