A fire broke out at the scrap yard of the Matarbari Thermal Power Plant in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, on Monday night.
According to the Fire Service, the blaze started at around 9:15 PM and was brought under control after nearly two hours of firefighting efforts.
Maheshkhali Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer-in-Charge Ram Prasad Sen said the fire occurred inside the power plant premises, specifically at the scrap disposal area.
“Two units of the Fire Service worked to control the fire,” he said.
The fire was fully brought under control at around 11:15 PM, he added.
Local journalist Abdu Rashid, citing residents, said flames were first noticed from a bridge adjacent to the power plant.
“People suddenly saw fire blazing near the bridge beside the power plant and immediately informed the Fire Service,” he said.
The Fire Service could not immediately confirm the extent of damage caused by the incident. No casualties were reported.
