Bangladesh’s twin stock exchanges, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), ended the week’s final trading session on a mixed note this Thursday. While a majority of stocks saw their prices tumble, the benchmark indices managed to post modest gains amid a slight dip in overall market turnover.
Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Highlights
Market analysis revealed that despite the bearish sentiment affecting a larger volume of securities, the core indices remained resilient. Out of the 391 issues traded on the DSE, 126 advanced, 183 declined, and 82 remained unchanged.

-
DSEX (Broad Index): Rose by approximately 6 points (0.12%) to close at 4,999 points.
-
DSES (Shariah Index): Gained 1.5 points, settling at 1,011 points.

Market Summary Table
| Exchange | Total Issues | Gainers | Losers | Unchanged | Turnover (Tk) |
| DSE | 391 | 126 | 183 | 82 | 429.11 Crore |
| CSE | 164 | 57 | 79 | 28 | 12.66 Crore |
The divergent movement—where indices rise despite more stocks falling—often suggests that high-cap “blue-chip” stocks performed well enough to lift the weighted average of the indices, offsetting the losses of smaller-cap companies.
