The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced a significant financial boost for Bangladesh, pledging a total of $2.57 billion (exceeding 30,000 crore BDT) for the year 2025. This commitment marks a substantial increase—more than double—compared to the $1.18 billion provided in 2024.
The announcement was made via a press release from the ADB’s Dhaka office on Monday, January 5, 2026. The funding is strategically designed to accelerate infrastructure development and facilitate critical institutional reforms across the country.
Sector-Wise Allocation of Funds
The ADB has outlined a comprehensive breakdown of how the 2025 investment will be distributed across various sectors to ensure balanced economic growth:

Key Projects and Strategic Goals
Among the major initiatives, the Chattogram-Dohazari Railway Project stands out with an allocation of $688 million. This project is expected to streamline rail connectivity from Dhaka directly to the tourism hub of Cox’s Bazar.
Other notable programs include:

A Growing Partnership
The ADB revealed that by December 31, 2025, its total outstanding loan portfolio in Bangladesh had surpassed $42 billion. Currently, there are 48 active projects in the country with a combined value of $10.8 billion. Furthermore, the agency successfully mobilized $720 million in co-financing from other development partners last year.
