Afrin Hoque, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Hatibandha, emphasized the critical need for the current generation to learn the authentic history of the Liberation War, stating that the past must remain free from distortion.
She made these remarks this morning during a reception and exchange of greetings with the families of martyred freedom fighters at the Shohor Uddin School grounds.
Honoring the Heroes
The event began with the UNO personally visiting the families of martyrs and veterans to present them with floral tributes. Speaking at the ceremony, Afrin Hoque noted that ensuring young people understand the sacrifices of 1971 is essential for the nation’s future.
The program was attended by several local officials and community members, including:
-
Shahin Mohammad Amanullah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatibandha Police Station.
-
Ronti Podder, Assistant Commissioner (Land).
-
Deen Mohammad Asadullah, Upazila Fisheries Officer.
-
Hundreds of veterans, family members of martyrs, and students from various local schools and colleges.
An Emotional Tribute
The gesture deeply moved the local veteran community. Bir Muktijoddha Nurul Amin, Member Secretary of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad (Hatibandha Upazila Command), expressed his gratitude during the ceremony.
“Even after so many years of independence, receiving such a reception is a matter of great pride,” he said. He further mentioned that he was “deeply overwhelmed” by the sense of responsibility and respect shown by the newly appointed UNO.
The event concluded with a renewed call to preserve the legacy of the freedom fighters and to integrate their stories into the education of local youth.
