A group of miscreants set fire to a sugar-laden truck and vandalized a police vehicle in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Thursday morning (November 13).
The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. on the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway in Shibchar. Additional police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
According to Highway Police sources, members of the banned Chhatra League attempted to block the expressway by throwing tree logs across the road, halting traffic. During the chaos, miscreants set fire to a truck carrying sugar. Police later arrived at the scene, extinguished the fire, and cleared the road for traffic. Meanwhile, a police vehicle was also vandalized.
Shibchar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Zahurul Islam said the situation is now under control, and police patrols are continuing.
Madaripur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Naimul Hasan added that traffic on the highway remains normal and additional police units have been deployed. Suspicious individuals are being searched to prevent further unrest.
