Three leading Bangladeshi soybean processors—Meghna Group, City Group, and Delta Agro—have announced a commitment to purchase $1 billion worth of soybeans from the United States over the next year.
The significant procurement agreement was revealed in a press release issued by the US Embassy in Dhaka. The deal, recently signed with the US Soybean Export Council, is being hailed as a major step forward in strengthening agricultural trade relations between the two nations.
Tripling US Soybean Exports to Bangladesh
The US Chargé d’Affaires, Tracy Jacobson, emphasized the growing importance of the Bangladeshi market. Jacobson stated, “Bangladesh has now become a key market for US agricultural products.”
She further highlighted the expected economic impact, noting that the agreement is projected to triple US soybean exports to Bangladesh in the coming year, which will, in turn, solidify the economic ties between the two countries.
New Milestone in Bilateral Partnership
Purnima Roy, Spokesperson for the US Mission, commented on the broader strategic implications of the contract. Roy remarked that the deal represents a new milestone in the Bangladesh-US agricultural trade and strategic partnership.
This substantial commitment underscores the rising demand for soybeans in Bangladesh, a critical ingredient for cooking oil and animal feed, and reinforces the United States’ role as a vital supplier to the region.
