United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) and the international payment network Mastercard have joined forces to offer faster, safer, and easier remittance services in Bangladesh. This strategic partnership aims to provide Bangladeshi expatriates with a more streamlined and accessible way to send money home through legal channels.
The agreement signing ceremony took place today, October 14, 2025, at UCB’s head office.
Representing UCB at the event were Adnan Masud, Additional Managing Director, and Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer.
Mastercard’s delegation included Suraj Vagahani, Senior Vice President of Network Management and Operations, and Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager for Bangladesh. Senior officials from both organizations were also present.
Adnan Masud, Additional Managing Director of UCB, emphasized the bank’s commitment to its customers, stating, “Our pledge is to deliver swift and secure remittances for Bangladeshi expatriates. In collaboration with Mastercard, we are fortifying our digital infrastructure to ensure customers can send money with greater ease and transparency.”
Suraj Vagahani, Senior Vice President at Mastercard, highlighted the importance of remittances to the national economy. “Remittances are a key driving force for Bangladesh’s economy. Through this partnership, we are opening up a safe and seamless path for expatriates to send money, which is vital not only for their families but also for the country’s digital financial progress. This will benefit their families and enhance financial inclusion nationwide.”
This joint initiative is viewed as a significant step towards the realization of a digitally connected Bangladesh, where secure and seamless transactions are guaranteed through a robust global financial network. The collaboration is expected to contribute substantially to the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance financial inclusion and digital economy growth.
