DUQM, Oman, October 8 — Seven Bangladeshi expatriate workers, all residents of the Sarikait Union in the Sandwip sub-district of Chattogram, were killed in a tragic road accident in the Duqm Sidrah area of Oman on Wednesday afternoon (local time).
The victims have been identified as Amin Sowdagar, Rocky, Arju, Bablu, Shahabuddin, Jewel, and Rony. So far, the identities of three victims have been confirmed: Amin Sowdagar, son of Ali Kobbor Serang from Ward No. 2 of Sarikait Union; Arju, son of Shahidullah from Ward No. 4; and Rocky, son of Ibrahim Mesturi from Ward No. 2.
Accident Details
A Bangladeshi eyewitness reported that the accident occurred while the group was returning home in a microbus after finishing their work fishing in the sea. The witness attributed the crash to the reckless speed of the vehicle, which resulted in their car being severely damaged, causing instantaneous death for all seven occupants.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Duqm Hospital morgue.
Grief at Home
Relatives of the victims confirmed receiving the devastating news on Wednesday afternoon. They stated that the seven were traveling in a microbus heading back to their residence after a fishing trip when the road accident occurred, crushing their vehicle and killing all passengers instantly.
Mongchingnu Marma, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Sandwip, expressed his condolences regarding the tragedy. “I have heard that seven expatriates from Sandwip Upazila died in a road accident in Oman. If their families approach us for administrative assistance on this matter, we will provide the necessary cooperation. We are currently gathering detailed information on the incident,” he said.
