A recent directive from the Ministry of Education has caused confusion among teachers and students regarding the reopening of secondary schools and colleges following the scheduled holiday period for Durga Puja, Fateha-i-Yazdaham, Probarona Purnima, and Lakshmi Puja.
According to the academic calendar, the 12-day holiday began on September 28th and is set to conclude on October 7th. Regular classes and examinations were expected to resume on October 8th.
However, a letter from the Ministry of Education instructing schools not to hold any examinations on October 8th and 9th led many institutions to misinterpret the directive and extend the holiday period until October 9th.
MAUSHI Clarifies Reopening Date
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (MAUSHI) has stepped in to clarify the situation, confirming that the holiday extension is incorrect. Md. Yunus Faruki, Deputy Director of the Secondary wing at MAUSHI, confirmed that the holiday remains until October 7th. “Class activities will resume normally from October 8th,” he stated. “However, according to the Ministry of Education’s directive, no examinations can be held on October 8th and 9th.”
Faruki stressed that the main objective of the letter was to ensure two days free of exams, not to extend the holiday. He added that institutions which declared a holiday until October 9th have made an error. He further clarified that the Ministry’s directive on this matter is clear, and anyone who is confused can contact MAUSHI directly for an explanation.
In short, while students must return to regular classes on October 8th, they are guaranteed a two-day break from scheduled tests or exams.
