The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badda Police Station, Md Saiful Islam, has been withdrawn, and seven policemen have been temporarily suspended after 30 rounds of shotgun ammunition were stolen from duty forces stationed at a temple in the capital’s Nimtoli area.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gulshan Division, Md Tarek Mahmud, confirmed the action on Tuesday (September 30). He said SI Mobashbir, one ASI, and five constables of Badda Police Station were suspended for negligence of duty, while OC Saiful Islam was withdrawn in connection with the incident.
According to police sources, law enforcers assigned to guard the Shree Shree Mahadev Ashram and Kali Temple in Nimtoli were staying in rooms on the second floor of an under-construction building within the temple compound.
Between 4:30 am and 5:30 am on Tuesday, while four policemen and three Ansar members were asleep, unidentified miscreants stole four bags, two wallets, and three mobile phones. One of the stolen bags contained 30 rounds of shotgun ammunition.
Later, around 9:45 am, police recovered the stolen bags from a nearby abandoned plot, with the ammunition intact. Three suspects were taken to the police station for questioning.
DC Tarek Mahmud said, “All stolen items, including the ammunition, have been recovered. However, this was clearly a case of negligence. As a disciplinary measure, action has been taken against the OC, one SI, one ASI, and five constables responsible.”
