The interim government’s Home Affairs Adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has alleged that unrest in Khagrachhari is being instigated by a neighboring country and allies of fascism.
He made the remarks on Monday (September 29) while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the construction work of five police station buildings under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Ramna, Dhaka.
Jahangir Alam said, “A certain quarter is trying to disrupt the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja. The same quarter is behind the incidents in Khagrachhari. These events are happening under the provocation of India or fascist groups. We are taking the highest measures to prevent such incidents.”
He added that the Adviser on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs is currently in the region, overseeing the situation and holding talks with local leaders.
The Home Affairs Adviser further said that some miscreants had fired shots from the hills, and that such weapons often come from abroad. “To counter this problem, we need cooperation from everyone,” he urged.
Regarding the tourists stranded in the hills, Jahangir Alam informed that most of them have already been brought back safely.
On Durga Puja, he emphasized, “Our major religious festival has started yesterday. We must ensure that no disorder occurs, roads are not blocked, and that the Puja is celebrated smoothly. Everyone must cooperate to make this possible.”
