Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, remarked that the Bangladeshi diaspora is an “inseparable part” of the nation and called upon them to play a crucial role in advancing the changes brought about by the “July Revolution.” He also appealed to non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to participate actively in the country’s reconstruction process.
Dr. Yunus made these comments while addressing an event titled “NRB Connect Day,” organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) in New York on Saturday (September 27).
Focus on National Reconstruction
Throughout the Chief Advisor’s address, the situation in Bangladesh was a recurring theme. He stated that the nation is currently undergoing reconstruction. Dr. Yunus recounted the experience of the tumultuous circumstances under which his government had to be formed just a year prior.
Appreciation for Remittance Growth
During his speech, the Chief Advisor commended the Bangladeshi diaspora for achieving over a 21% growth in remittance inflow. He also highlighted the government’s initiatives to create an investment-friendly environment within the country.
Political Unity at NRB Event
Similar to the recent United Nations General Assembly session, the NRB event saw leaders from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and NCP seated alongside the Chief Advisor. Notable attendees also included Dr. Yunus’s Special Envoy, Lutfi Siddiqui, National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman, and Law Advisor Asif Nazrul. The event was anchored by BIDA’s Executive Chairman, Ashiq Chowdhury.
