Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 244 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated bodies while attempting to stage flash processions in different parts of the capital. Police also seized 14 crude bombs (cocktails) and various other materials during the operation.
The information was confirmed by DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime & Operations) Md. Nazrul Islam at a press briefing held at the DMP headquarters on Wednesday (24 September) afternoon.
He stated that the outlawed Awami League has been attempting to create unrest in the country ahead of the upcoming national elections. “In continuation of this, 244 leaders and activists were arrested while trying to organize flash processions in Dhaka,” he said.
The DMP official further alleged that these flash processions and subversive activities are being funded both domestically and internationally. He urged city residents to immediately inform the police if any Awami League members are found staying in hotels, student hostels, or flats in Dhaka. “The identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential,” he assured.
