Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that the recent victories of Islami Chhatra Shibir in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections will have an impact on the upcoming national polls.
Speaking as the chief guest at Jamaat’s central women’s council session held at Al-Falah Auditorium in Dhaka’s Moghbazar on Saturday, Dr. Rahman said many were “astonished” by the results of the student union elections. “By the will of Allah, the influence of these victories will be reflected in the next national election,” he added.
The Jamaat chief stated that his party aims to contest all 300 parliamentary seats in the next election, with the support of its followers and well-wishers. He called on party members and sympathizers to extend both financial and moral support to ensure electoral success.
Reflecting on last year’s July–August mass movement that culminated in the political change of August 5, 2024, Dr. Rahman paid tribute to those who lost their lives or sustained injuries during the protests. He said, “With sacrifice and struggle, Allah granted us a great victory. We pray for the highest rewards in this world and the hereafter for all martyrs and victims.”
Dr. Rahman also highlighted the sufferings of opposition activists during the previous 15 years, citing imprisonment, persecution, exile, and ongoing medical conditions for many. “Our leaders endured prison, torture, and even death under the fascist regime,” he said. “Their sacrifices have given us the opportunity to work today in a free environment.”
He urged party workers to remain humble, avoid arrogance, serve the people, and seek help from Allah in their political activities.
The daylong session, chaired by Jamaat’s central women’s secretary Nurunnisa Siddika, featured a keynote paper on “Political Situation and the 2026 National Election” presented by party secretary general and former MP, Prof. Mia Golam Porwar.
Other speakers included assistant secretary general Maulana Abdul Halim and Maulana ATM Masum. Central women’s working committee members and elected Shura members from across the country attended the event.
