DHAKA – Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, is set to depart for New York tonight (Sunday, September 21) to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to his schedule, he will arrive in New York on September 22 and deliver his address to the General Assembly on September 26. He is expected to return to Bangladesh on October 2. The information was confirmed by Faiz Ahmed, the Senior Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
Professor Yunus will be accompanied by four political leaders: Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP); Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami; Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizen’s Party (NCP); and Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Adviser to BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman.
Earlier, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Towhid Hossain stated that the Chief Adviser would highlight the reforms undertaken in Bangladesh over the past year and the commitment to establishing a truly democratic state through the upcoming national elections.
Additionally, Professor Yunus is scheduled to participate in a high-level conference on “The Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar” on September 30, which will be chaired by the President of the UN General Assembly.
