In the past 24 hours, no new dengue-related deaths were reported, but 382 people have been admitted to hospitals with the disease.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shared the update in its dengue report on Saturday (September 20).
According to the report, among the new patients, 129 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka city corporations, while the rest were from outside Dhaka.
So far this year, a total of 41,091 people have been hospitalized with dengue. Of them, 38,948 have been discharged, and 167 have died.
Professor Dr. Atikur Rahman, a specialist physician, said, “Dengue is now occurring throughout the year and tends to rise with the onset of rain. Along with using mosquito repellents, we need widespread awareness campaigns, and people must remain cautious.”
Entomologist Dr. Manzur Chowdhury added, “Just imposing fines or raising awareness is not enough to control mosquitoes. Proper surveys must be conducted, and trained manpower should be deployed for effective measures.”
For context, in 2023, Bangladesh recorded the highest number of dengue cases in its history—321,179 infections and 1,705 deaths.
