In a tragic incident in the capital, four members of the same family sustained burn injuries after an air conditioner (AC) explosion at their home in Jatrabari, Dhaka.
The accident occurred around 1:30 am on Friday night (September 19) on the 7th floor of a building near Lichubagan Mosque in Dhalpur Boubazar.
The injured were identified as Md. Tuhin Hossain (38), his wife Iba Akter (30), and their two sons Tawhid (7) and Tanvir (9). Tuhin works at a mobile servicing shop in Motaleb Plaza, while the family’s ancestral home is in Madaripur Sadar upazila.
According to Iba’s sister, Farzana Akter, the family members were asleep when the AC suddenly exploded, sparking a fire inside the room. Neighbors rushed to their aid, extinguished the flames, and immediately took the victims to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident doctor at the institute’s emergency department, told the media that Tuhin suffered 40% burns, his wife Iba 8%, son Tawhid 15%, and son Tanvir 47%. All four have been admitted and are undergoing treatment.
