A Bangladeshi migrant worker in the United Arab Emirates has seen his fortune change overnight after winning the lottery. Mohammad Mamunur Rahman, a 53-year-old plaster worker who has been working in the UAE for the past 28 years, struck luck in Abu Dhabi’s Big Ticket weekly draw.
Mamun won 50,000 dirhams (around Tk 17 lakh) in the draw. He had been purchasing tickets regularly for the past three years.
Speaking about his unexpected win, Mamun said, “When I received the call informing me that I was a winner, I was completely surprised.”
He has not yet decided how he will spend the money but mentioned that he will continue buying lottery tickets.
Each week, four winners are announced in the Abu Dhabi Big Ticket draw, with each receiving 50,000 dirhams. Additionally, one lucky participant from among September’s ticket buyers will win 2 million dirhams in the grand draw scheduled for October 3.
